Ken is a North Carolina native and is currently living in Charlotte. He
has been entangled in a love affair with music throughout his life. He
was singing along with records as a pre-schooler, and wrote his first
song at age ten. As a teenager, he learned to play drums, bass guitar,
harmonica, and some guitar and keyboards; and over the years has
embraced a wide variety of musical styles.
Most of Ken's musical life has been focused on the bass, playing in east coast bands and doing studio work. In the mid-80's, he left playing music behind to pursue whitewater canoeing and other outdoor activities. After 16+ years, he jumped back into music in 2001, focusing on the guitar and songwriting. He now performs in the Carolinas, playing his own brand of acoustic pop/rock, blues, and ballads, and writing both instrumental and lyrical music inspired by world events and social injustices, his love of nature and the outdoors, and his emotional responses/visions. Ken released his first CD as a solo artist, First Descent, in Dec. 2003. He is currently recording a new solo CD of mostly vocal songs, and is also working on an instrumental CD of Blues/Rock/Jazz fusion music with guitarist and friend Gil Vanderlip. Ken is also now playing guitar and bass with singer/songwriter Alan Barrington and percussionist Greg Lilley in the band PapaDaddy. This new band, based in Charlotte, is bringing a variety of original, folk/pop, and blues music to venues in the Carolinas. |
